Are GPS and Air Conditioning the Zenith of Human Achievement?

by Jen Collins, Sacred Fire New Freedom, PA

Yes, of course they are! That is my first answer. GPS can get me anywhere. It’s a modern day miracle. It has successfully navigated me all through Scotland, and to new doctors’ offices, restaurants, stores…you get the picture.

If I then close up my car windows on the way to all these new places and turn on my air conditioning…well, it makes me feel like I really am doing something. I’ve got direction (ha-ha!), climate control, sound reduction, and time to myself. I’m all self-contained in my little metal box with a cozy chair, a tasty beverage and an audio experience of my choosing.

Wildfires, Courage and Community

Grandfather Fire is our friend, our common heart, our warmth in the night, our cook for our food. He brings us together in surprising ways to accomplish the work of heart.

He has given us the task to build community with our neighbors, but we have not been so good at achieving that. So, He manifested as a forest fire that threatened to consume the Mesa Life Project land, causing us to reach out for help and forge deep connections.

Thank you, Grandfather, for your helping us strengthen our connections!

Seeking a Finance Manager

Someone who understands the nature of Fire. Is not afraid of money. Understands money. Likes details and lists.

Hi, This is Susan Skinner. Jennifer Weise and I have been running the finance area of the Sacred Fire Community organization for over 8 years. Regrettably, Jennifer now needs to move on to devote more time to other responsibilities in her life, and this leaves me in critical need of a partner.

I’m looking for someone with good organizational skills and facility with numbers to take on Jennifer’s role as Finance Manager. Any bookkeeping, accounting, business, or organizational background would be extremely helpful. Knowledge of Quickbooks is a plus, although we have a separate Quickbooks manager.

The main thing you need is a willingness to learn and a desire to help. This is a volunteer position and usually takes around 2-4 hours per week. It’s a needed role and a practical way to help us in our work to bring Fire and Heart to the world.

If you’re interested, please write me directly.

Thank you!

Susan

Voices of Wisdom Southeast 2018

Immerse yourself in ancestral wisdom that will open your heart to renewed connections within yourself, the people around you, and the Natural World. Please join us around the Sacred Fire.

On November 17–18, Sacred Fire Asheville, North Carolina will host Voices of Wisdom, welcoming elders Pahan Pte San Win (Lakota, Cree and Metis) and Wanbdi Wakita (Dakota) for Taku Wakan, “Something Sacred”.

One day Wanbdi had a powerful vision that changed his life. Since then he has had the job of making prayers for people. Pahan Pte San Win tells us, “The first time I had a vision I was 8 years old.” Hear the natural laws of kindness, sharing, and love and how that translates into meaningful action that we can see and experience.
